Dr. Swanson’s one and only goal is to make you happy. With over 15 years of excellent training, meticulous attention to detail, artistic abilities, and passion for anatomy, Dr. Swanson can offer you the best and latest options for your particular problem or concern. Every patient is different, and Dr. Swanson is a firm believer in taking time to understand your personal wishes to give you the most natural and best possible outcome.

Dr. Swanson loves doing the full breadth of plastic surgery, both elective and reconstructive. Due to his subspecialized focus in training, his expertise lies in aesthetic surgery of the face, breast and body. He is particularly interested in facial aesthetics and reconstruction, including functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, periorbital surgery, facial rejuvenation, reconstruction after Mohs as well as cleft lip/palate.

Dr. Swanson was born in Sierra Vista and raised in Southern Arizona as well as Northern Mexico. With family on both sides of the border, Dr. Swanson is intimately familiar with the community and their needs. His interest in medicine and surgery were instilled in him from early childhood witnessing his father’s busy ophthalmology practice. His pursuit towards plastic and reconstructive surgery arose through his passion for anatomy, the broadness and variety of the specialty, the ability to help patients of all ages as well as the countless opportunities for humanitarian work.

Dr. Swanson has constantly tried to excel academically and professionally, holding himself to the highest standards throughout his education. He graduated one year early from Douglas High School and went on to study Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University where he graduated with honors. He was then accepted to the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, a top medical school with an acceptance rate of less than 5% at the time. From medical school, he also graduated with Honors as well as Distinction in Clinical Research. Dr. Swanson began his plastic surgery integrated training at the same institution and transferred midway to continue his training at the Cleveland Clinic, the second best hospital in the world at the time. While in Cleveland, Dr. Swanson had the incredible opportunity to focus on aesthetic plastic surgery of the face, breast and body, under world-renowned experts in the field, namely facial and rhinoplasty surgery. To this day, Dr. Swanson has contributed to over 30 scientific publications including studies and book chapters, as well as over 40 podium presentations in conferences.

Dr. Swanson’s interest in charity traces back to his early experience alongside his father who has always been involved in medical campaigns. During medical school, Dr. Swanson was selected for a competitive research fellowship in Papua New Guinea, where he helped with an important clinical trial supported by the WHO and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, focused on eradicating lymphatic filariasis in the region. Additionally, during medical school, Dr. Swanson participated in several surgical missions and took on an additional year to work for Operation Smile, a non-profit organization mainly focused on providing cleft lip and palate surgical care to children worldwide. During this time, Dr. Swanson lived in Nicaragua, in one of the most rural portions of the country where he functioned as the field leader of an ambitious project called, Surgery for the People, focused on improving the access, safety, and outcomes of surgical care to the most underserved regions of the country. This project was a collective effort conceived after the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. Dr. Swanson continues to be a volunteer for Operation Smile and is constantly seeking opportunities to help with medical charity locally.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Swanson loves going on adventures with his wife and children. He is fortunate to enjoy being in the operating room just as much as he enjoys his many other hobbies including aviation, medical illustration, outdoors and any kind of hands-on project.
