Our society seems to place a lot of emphasis on large breasts. To prove this point, all you have to do is turn on the television or go to a movie and look at the ladies on the screen. But having large breasts, specifically ones that are out of proportion with the general size of your body, often causes some problems and concerns for the women who carry them.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Reduction?

If you feel that your breasts are causing your problems due to being too large, here are some of the benefits of having a breast reduction procedure.

  1. Breast Reduction improves the overall size, shape, and balance of your breasts.
  2. Breast Reduction can relieve neck, shoulder and back pain that is often a result of carrying the weight of large breasts.
  3. Breast Reduction can relieve the pain of bra straps that have created physical dents in the shoulders.
  4. Breast Reduction can give you the freedom to participate in sports and physical activities that are usually too painful for women with large breasts.
  5. Breast Reduction can cause you to be less self-conscious and improve your self-esteem.

What Are the Options for Breast Reduction?

Breast Reduction Surgery is a great option for large breast. Breast reduction surgery is when the skin, along with breast tissue and fat  are removed to create smaller, shapelier breasts. There are a few incision options which your plastic surgeon will discuss with you prior to your surgery. After the incision is made, the underlying breast tissue is then removed, lifted and shaped. Once this is complete, the incisions are brought together to reshape your smaller breasts. Sutures are placed to support the breast and to close the incisions. The incision lines used will eventually fade over time. Breast reduction surgery typically takes between three to four hours to complete.

Breast Reduction Consultations Available

When you awaken from your surgery, you find dressings and bandages applied to the surgical site. These dressings help control bleeding and the compression will help to reduce post-surgical inflammation. You will be given pain medication to help keep the pain to a minimum immediately after the surgery. It will be very important to sleep on your back in such a way that there is no pressure applied to your breasts.

You will need to wear a soft, stretchy bra every day for 4 weeks to reduce swelling and provide support. There will be pain and swelling which will decrease over the first 2 weeks. Strenuous exercise should be discontinued for the first 4 weeks and no sexual activity for the first 2 weeks.

You will have regular post-surgical appointments with your surgeon during the first month after surgery. During these visits, you will receive more specific information based on your own specific rate of recovery. In general, patients can return to work after 1-2 weeks and can resume their typical schedule of activities after the first 4 weeks have passed.

When i first came to Dermatology and Plastic Surgery i was not sure a Breast Reduction was something I would go through with or that was right for me. The office is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. JAMIE MOENSTER was well beyond friendlier then i could have expected and she is very knowledgeable. I was very happy and excited to go through with my surgery. I was slightly dishartened when i began to have wound healing issues on one side of my chest after the surgery. ive done everything by the book to allow propper healing but it seemed out of my control. Complications with healing are always a risk with any plastic surgery and i was advised that before i made my decision. Jamie Moenster gave me her cell and let me text her any time of the day with any questions i had. I definetly never felt alone through this process and truly felt like they cared about my results and success.. I took away 1 star because i did have healing complications.
