Have you recently noticed that the two lines below your nose are becoming more pronounced? Do you feel like everything on your face is sliding down and creating a droopy jawline? If so, you are experiencing very normal signs of aging. As our bodies age, we tend to lose volume and elasticity in our skin and can sometimes end up with saggy looking jowls. Or are you suffering the opposite problem with an overly full double chin and excessive neck fat? No matter which problem you are facing, you can fight back with a couple of very effective treatments.

Neck Contouring

If your skin is relatively smooth and firm but you have excess fatty deposits beneath the chin or jawline you may be a good candidate for neck contouring. Most neck contouring patients range in age from their 20’s to their 50’s. This treatment will create a firmer, smoother, and more refined appearance to your neck and chin. Neck contouring involves neck liposuction to remove fat cells from an excessively full double chin. This procedure is fairly quick taking 30 to 60 minutes. Neck liposuction can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Tiny incisions are made beneath the chin and/or behind the ears. Small medical tools are then used to remove the excess fat from the area and to shape a more defined neckline. After the surgery, patients leave with a special chin strap that keeps pressure on the area for several weeks. Patients report some swelling and bruising after the procedure that generally disappears within a week. In most cases, patients can return to work within a week and continue full activity in three- four weeks.  The cost of neck liposuction varies by individual needs, service provider and geographic location, but generally runs between $1500- $4000.

Neck Lift

The neck lift treatment is more involved than neck liposuction. During this treatment, a surgeon will remove excess skin (cervicoplasty) and tighten loose neck muscles (platysmaplasty). The combination of these two procedures gives the patient a more defined and beautiful neck and jawlines. Neck lifts are done as outpatient procedure in hospitals or surgery centers under general anesthesia. Small incisions will be made behind the ears and possibly the chin.

Through these incisions, the neck muscles and/or underlying tissue will be tightened and excess, saggy skin will be removed to restore a smooth, firm, and more youthful looking neck and jawline. Patients report some swelling and bruising after the procedure that generally disappears within a week. The results of neck lifts are long-lasting. Saggy jowls, neck creases, and wrinkles will be gone and patients will be able to return to normal activities in four weeks. The cost of this treatment varies by individual based on their desired results. The cost also varies by physician and location, but in general, neck lift surgeries tend to cost anywhere from $4500 to $8000.
