As we age, all those years of stress, sun exposure, and gravity can be seen on our faces. Wrinkles around our eyes and mouth seem to appear suddenly. Our jowls sag, our foreheads have worry lines and when we notice the “eleven” lines between our eyebrows we begin wondering if we really spent too much time scowling at life. Don’t worry any more lines onto your beautiful face. We can take care of those signs of aging with Mini Facelifts or traditional Facelifts.

What Is A Traditional Facelift?

During a traditional facelift, an incision is made up into the hairline behind the side burn and behind the ear to the posterior hairline. An incision is also made below the chin. The facelift procedure lasts an average of 4 hours. During this time, the surgeon will tighten underlying neck muscles and jowls, perform liposuction on the neck, and then redrape the skin and remove the excess skin. This surgery is done under general anesthesia and may require an overnight stay. With the traditional facelift, patients can expect stitches, which will be removed in one week.  During the first two weeks after surgery, patients wear a compression wrap full time to minimize swelling and bruising. Minor bruising and swelling are common and will disappear in roughly 2 weeks. When the two weeks are over, patients may return to work and may begin wearing make-up. At this time they will only need to wear the compression wrap for half of the day, possibly the evening hours after work. The results of a traditional facelift are permanent and the cost can range from $7000-15,000. (cost varies by individual and by physician).

What Is A Mini-Facelift?

A Mini-Facelift is sometimes called a Weekend Facelift because it is less extensive than the traditional one and patients can generally return to their normal activities after just 2 days.

During a mini-facelift, the doctor will make three small incisions which will be used for the removal of excess fat and to reshape the muscles. Mini-Facelifts reduce minor sagging around the cheeks, jawline, and neck. This procedure does not affect the forehead or eyes. The surgery is done with local anesthesia and is, therefore, an outpatient procedure with no hospital stay. Patients will leave the surgery with a bandage which they must wear for 48 hours to reduce swelling and bruising. The sutures are removed in one week, and the patient generally returns to normal activities/work in just a few days. The mini-facelift generally lasts 5-10 years and costs between $3500-6500.

Which Procedure Is Right For Me?

The very best way to determine which of these procedures is best for you is to consult your plastic surgeon. The decision will be based on the results that you want to achieve as well as the time and money that you wish to invest. During a consultation, the surgeon will give you more detailed explanations of each procedure and will answer questions that are specific to you and your treatment plan.
