Nothing shows our age more than our eyes. Over time, our eyelid skin stretches, muscles weaken, and fat pockets become more prominent. Unfortunately, this can give us a tired, droopy appearance. Many clients are opting for a cosmetic blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, to turn back the clock and restore their fresh, younger-looking face of the past.
Through a small incision in the natural crease of your eyelid, your surgeon is able to rejuvenate your eyes to give you a more youthful look. Depending on your individual needs, excess skin may be removed or tightened and fat pockets can be reshaped or removed.
Removal of sagging upper eyelid skin and under eye bags through surgery provides long-lasting results. Typically, patients who undergo blepharoplasty surgery have permanent results that typically last 15 years.
How Do You Determine If A Patient Should Get an Upper or Lower Eyelid Lift or Both?
While most clients decide to get both upper and lower eyelid surgery, it’s not always necessary. During your in-person consult, your surgeon will assess your needs and help you make an informed decision.
Patients are 75% more likely to get the upper eyelid lift done. The upper eyelid is more commonly the area for preferred treatment simply because there is more skin, muscle, and fat causing potential puffiness or sagging. However, the lower eyelid can also be done to reduce the appearance of unwanted fine lines, wrinkles, and bags.
Furthermore, your eyelid lift may be performed alongside any number of other cosmetic procedures to achieve desired results. Talk to your cosmetic surgeon about what may or may not be right for you. Together you’ll be able to create a customized plan to enhance your appearance.
