Though dermal fillers can provide great volume and rejuvenation to the face, a facelift remains the gold standard and most effective and dramatic way to create a younger looking face. A facelift can reduce the sagging or folds of skin on the cheeks and jawline and other changes in the shape of your face that occur with age.

A facelift is able to deliver such dramatic results because it is a surgical procedure. During a facelift, the surgeon will create incision(s) on the side of the face and alter muscles and tissue below the skin to shape the contour of the face to a more youthful shape. Your surgeon will also remove excess skin before closing the incisions.

Many patients take approximately two to four weeks to fully heal from a facelift procedure. After surgery, the head and face will be bandaged to help reduce swelling and bruising. A drainage tube may be inserted behind the patient’s ear to prevent blood and fluid from collecting under the skin.

After two weeks, you may apply makeup except over the incisions. It will take 6-8 weeks for the majority of the skin to settle and it takes one year for the scars to completely mature.

Results from a facelift are permanent and can help patients look seven-to-ten years younger. However it will not stop the aging process from continuing. Many patients find their facelift results last approximately 10 years.
