As a young person, you probably never imagined that time would catch up with you. All those years of stress, sun exposure, and gravity are starting to take a toll on our faces. Wrinkles around our eyes and mouth appear suddenly. Our jowls begin to sag, our worry lines emerge and we begin to notice the “eleven” lines between our eyebrows. What happened? When did time overtake us? There is nothing to fear. We can take care of those signs of aging with a variety of treatments, including  Facelifts. So, let’s check out the cost of a traditional facelift!

What Is A Traditional Facelift?

During a traditional facelift, an incision is made up into the hairline behind the sideburn, around the ear, and behind the ear to the posterior hairline. An incision is also made below the chin. The facelift procedure lasts an average of 4 hours. During this time, the surgeon will tighten underlying neck muscles and jowls, perform liposuction on the neck, and then redrape the skin and remove the excess skin. This surgery is done under general anesthesia. With the traditional facelift, patients can expect stitches, which some will dissolve and some will be removed in one week.  During the first two weeks after surgery, patients wear a compression wrap full time to minimize swelling and bruising. Minor bruising and swelling are common and will disappear in roughly 2 weeks. When the two weeks are over, patients may return to work and may begin wearing make-up.

What Factors Influence the Cost?

As with any type of surgery, there are three main factors that contribute to the overall cost of the surgery:

  • The surgeon’s experience and expertise.  More experienced and more highly sought after surgeons generally have higher rates for their skill and expertise.
  • The geographical location of the surgeon’s office. Like the cost of living, the cost of surgical care varies from state to state and region to region.
  • The amount of work that you need to have done. All surgeries are customized for your own particular needs. Generally, the more work that needs to be done, the higher the cost of the procedure.

In addition to these three factors, the fees you pay will include all of the following:

  • Surgeon’s fees
  • Hospital or surgical center costs
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Post-surgical garments

With all of these things in mind, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery reported that in 2018, the cost of a Facelift ranged from $7700 to $11,780. Patients should also bear in mind that most insurance plans do not cover the cost of facelift surgery nor its complications. However, most providers have financing plans that will make this confidence-building, time-reversing procedure attainable for their valued patients.
