When you think about it, a person’s face takes a lot of wear and tear during a lifetime. In any weather, the face is uncovered so that you can navigate where you are going, interact with everyone around you, take in nutrients to fuel your body, and much more. Our faces endure a variety of temperatures, different types of pollution, sun, weather conditions, and a variety of chemicals from makeup to sunscreen and even cleaning products. So, let’s take care of the skin on our faces with some laser skin resurfacing. What can Laser Skin Resurfacing do for you?
What Is Laser Resurfacing?
Laser Resurfacing is a type of skin treatment that uses lasers and intense pulsed light to help reduce facial wrinkles and other skin irregularities. These treatments work by introducing controlled amounts of wounds on the skin which then prompt the body to heal itself by creating new cells. Some of the benefits of laser resurfacing include:
- Improving uneven skin texture
- Improving a dull complexion
- Reducing and improving scarring
- Improving and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improving sun-damaged and aged skin
- Reducing the look of hyperpigmentation and evening out color
- Improving the skin’s texture, making it smoother and healthier-looking
What Are the Types of Laser Resurfacing?
At Dermatology and Plastic Surgery of Arizona, we use two effective and popular types of laser resurfacing treatments. The CO2RE Laser Resurfacing system and the Nordlys System.

CO2RE Laser Resurfacing?
CO2RE Laser Resurfacing is a one-treatment procedure that uses a laser to improve skin tone and texture through skin resurfacing. This treatment reduces the effects of the sun and improves coloration and a dull tone. It aids in restoring a thinning collagen layer while
smoothing out fine lines, wrinkles, surgical scars, and acne scars.
CO2RE Laser Resurfacing works by removing layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method. Essentially, the laser makes tiny spaces in the skin to create micro-columns of controlled damage in the skin. This action stimulates the body to heal itself with new, healthy skin and collagen. Once the healing begins, patients will see an improvement in skin coloration, reduction of age spots, reduced appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and an improvement in skin tone and texture.
With the CO2RE Laser Resurfacing treatment, there will be approximately 7 – 14 days of downtime. After the treatment, patients report a burning sensation similar to a severe sunburn for a few days. During that time, patients will use a special recovery balm and will want to rest indoors.
The Nordlys System
The Nordlys System of laser resurfacing has two main components. The first is the Ellipse IPL which uses intense pulsed light to treat photodamaged skin. The second component is the Frax 1550 which uses fractional technology to resurface the skin which improves the texture.
The treatment takes between 30-60 minutes to complete depending on the size and number of areas being treated. A topical anesthetic is applied 30 minutes before treatment. There is very little downtime with the Nordlys system. An ice pack may be used after the treatment and during the first day or two to ease swelling and discomfort.
Following treatment, patients will see a reduction in fine wrinkles and age spots and will have smoother and healthier-looking skin. The appearance of scarring, discoloration, and sun-damaged skin will be improved, leaving your face to look more refreshed, smoother, and brighter overall.
