What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser Skin Resurfacing is a cosmetic treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and other skin imperfections, such as acne scars. One of our providers will laser specific areas of the face to remove the outer layer of the skin. This promotes collagen growth so that new skin will grow in place of the damaged skin. The result of this procedure is new skin growth and a smoother complexion. There will be a visible improvement in skin texture and tone, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
What is enticing about Laser Skin Resurfacing is the fact that it is noninvasive yet can still yield results that last two to five years. It is a great option for those who want to effectively treat acne scars without having to undergo surgery.
Who is a Good Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

- Wrinkles or fine lines around the forehead, mouth, and eyes
- Scars from acne, stretch marks, or surgery
- Sun-damaged or aged skin
- Spotting on the skin and uneven complexion
- Discoloration of the skin
If you have any of the above issues and are looking to rejuvenate your skin’s complexion, Laser Skin Resurfacing may be a good fit for you.
Procedure and Recovery Time
Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment may take anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours, depending on the size of the treatment area. Numbing is applied to the treatment area for the patients comfort during treatment application and wears off within a few hours post treatment. The Treatment Provider will then apply a thin layer of laser enzyme gel and SPF 30+ to hydrate and protect your skin when leaving the office. Redness and mild swelling is expected for up to 3-5 days post treatment. Pigmentation may appear darker, with mild scaling and peeling but will dissipate within 10 to 14 days post treatment. It is recommended to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized during the duration of healing time (up to 7 days) to avoid scabbing and Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.
The recovery process takes 7 to 14 days depending on each individual.
Are There Any Risks?
All cosmetic procedures come with risks and side effects. However, with laser skin resurfacing, the risks are quite minimal.
It is common to experience swelling and hyperpigmentation for a few days following treatment, especially around the eyes. The sensation has been described as feeling like sunburn. You may also have small white bumps called milia appear around the treatment site.
It is best to avoid sun exposure during the healing process. You can apply a cold compress and gently clean the skin with a washcloth to manage post-treatment symptoms.
