Our bodies continuously change as we age, and the breasts are no exception. Events like pregnancy and breastfeeding, for instance, can significantly alter the appearance of the breasts. It is common for the breasts to lose volume and begin to sag over time, and it can happen to small and large chests alike.
Both a breast augmentation and a breast lift can target specific areas of the chest and enhance its overall appearance. Determining which procedure is best for you will depend on your current anatomy and individual goals. In some cases, combining both procedures will yield the best results.
What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a surgical procedure that removes loose and sagging skin on the breast. The breasts are then lifted and reshaped to restore their youthful appearance. In addition, a breast lift can restore the appearance of the nipples by downsizing. Sagging breasts can cause the nipples to point downwards and getting a breast lift can reverse this positioning.
If you have loose skin around the chest, sagging breasts, or a downturned nipple positioning, a breast lift may be the best procedure for you.
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses implants to enhance the shape, size, and volume of the breasts. Implants are versatile and can correct a range of issues. They can balance out asymmetry in the breasts, add size and projection to small or flat breasts, and restore fullness lost by aging, weight loss, or pregnancy to the breasts. In addition, breast implants come in various sizes, so you can try on and select the option that looks most natural on you.
If you have asymmetrical breast tissue or desire a fuller and rounder breast appearance, breast augmentation might be the right option for you.
Combining a Breast Lift with Augmentation
It is possible to get both a breast lift and breast augmentation. Although each procedure varies in approach, the procedures complement rather than interfere with each other. Most breast lifts and augmentations can be completed at the same time. Doing so could save you money and shorten your recovery time. If you are unhappy with the volume, shape, or size of your breasts, and you also have sagging breast tissue or downturned nipples, it may be best to get both a breast lift and an augmentation. The best way to determine which procedure is right for you is by contacting a cosmetic surgeon. Your Board-certified Plastic Surgeon will be able to recommend the best treatment and help determine whether a breast lift, breast augmentation, or both is best for you and your anatomy.
