The terms ‘breast lift’ and ‘breast augmentation’ are often used interchangeably, but they refer to two different procedures. Both enhance the breasts – but they do so in different ways.

Breast Lift

Time, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and breastfeeding all cause the breasts to sag. If your breasts still have adequate volume but have lost their perky, upright position, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. Often, placement of the nipple on the breast mound determines need for a lift, if your nipples point downward you may be a candidate for a breast lift. It is important to note that a breast lift will not increase the size of your breasts. A breast lift is for women who are happy with the size of their breasts, but not their position on the chest.

Breast Augmentation

A breast augmentation increases the volume or size of the breast. Breastfeeding and aging can cause the breasts to lose volume. A breast augmentation can also correct minor asymmetries. A breast augmentation will not correct severely drooping breasts – many patients may be dealing with both lack of volume and sagging. In these cases, a combination of an augmentation and lift may be the ideal solution.
